Why we started this project
Throughout my clinical career in caring for women, I was overwhelmed by the limited access to basic needs that women didn’t have access to. Upon moving to Seattle, I lived in the downtown area and saw firsthand the limited supplies women had access to during their menses. Two years ago I started talking with homeless women in Seattle regarding their access to feminine hygiene products. The response was overwhelming.
My research extended further regarding their education to basic feminine hygiene. The majority of women weren’t knowledgeable regarding proper tampon or pad use. Being a mother to my daughter, Makenzie, I knew something had to be done. I leaned on my faith to guide the next steps in developing The Healing Hands Project. The name was developed based on God being the ultimate healer, I’m just his hands.
